As with my last trip to St Augustine I left with a revival of my faith and stories to tell with maybe just odd coincidences or signs that only are for me. Last time we had the dove that landed in our yard and hung out for over a month, walked through my house... I think I blogged about hat a couple of years ago on my myspace blog, I will have to look.

So this time I have more first I will talk about the Benedict Saints.

Considering it was holy week I went to church on Wednesday at the Cathedral Basilica.  It was the Chrism mass, this is the mass where the bishop blesses all of the oils. I figured this is my chance to go to church while I am here and I wanted to be able to go because this is oldest church in the Nation.

I think I mentioned in my myspace blog about my cousins funeral mass; the priests flooded in off white robes and it seemed as though they were never ending. I had never experienced a mass with over 50 priests doing the consecration as at that mass, nor did I think I would; in fact as my uncle said while we left the church " I don?t think we will ever experience anything like that again! "

Well! Not even a month later, I did!  Well over 50 priests in off white robes flooding into the church. They renewed there "Vows?" ( I don?t know what the technical term is for that LOL).. Again as with Michaels service all stood pouring off the sides of the alter as they all  joined in the consecration with the Bishop.

The Cathedral Basilica inside is laid out very much like St Benedicts church in the Bronx. In addition the Cathedral serves St. Benedict The Moor church  in St Augustine. The two similarities drove me to want to read further about what I thought was one Saint but is actually two different Saints. In addition last week I saw on my friends table a book she was reading a book called the "The Tears OF God" by Father Benedict Groeschel, who is the priest on EWTN that interviewed my cousin when he was ill, as I had written about in previous blogs.

You can read about St Benedict Here.

You can read about St Benedict The Moor Here.

This may be the beginning of a new painting series I have been procrastinating doing for some time now. I wanted to do a series of the saints. I wanted to study each one and paint them but could not figure out where or who to begin with... so now that I am studying,  I think these will  be my first two! I guess I will see who it takes me to next!
